After a fascinating indoor meeting with a presentation on fungi, we are all eager to learn more and will be doing so on our next field visit. The venue for our Fungi Foray has been decided; this will be to Whitwell Moor on the edge of Stocksbridge. We have visited this area on a few occasions and it has always offered an array of nature for us to observe and route dependent, some stunning views too. The woodland area of the moor with its many beech and larch trees results in a colourful range of fungi from the ever popular Fly Agaric to Ceps, Porcelain, Panther Caps and Yellow Swamp Russula. With fungi, though, you never know what we will find !
Meeting point details have been emailed out to our group already so if you feel you want to join us please drop an email to us for more information. [email protected]
Our lead for this walk has also hinted that there could (will) be a pop-up fungi walk to another of our favourite fungi locations too, as we love our waxcaps.
