We hold indoor meetings on alternate Wednesdays all year round (except during August) in the Lecture Room at Barnsley Central Library in Shambles Street. The meetings begin at 7 p.m. and end about 8.50 p.m. They consist mainly of illustrated talks by informed speakers, with occasional practical evenings on specific themes of interest to members.
We also hold field trips at intervals throughout the year. These are usually held on Saturday mornings, and take the form of short-distance informal walks at local venues of natural history interest. Time is taken to try and identify, and make lists of, the species encountered for personal interest and for the Society’s records.
In 2009 and 2010 we have been participating in the OPAL surveys on Air and Water Quality. (OPAL = Open Air Laboratory - a programme of nature surveys organised by the Natural History Museum and funded by the National Lottery).
Details of forthcoming meetings and field trips can be seen on the programme page of this web site.
Everyone is welcome to attend any of our events.
